Recognised Training Providers

As our profession continues to grow, one of the key responsibilities of the Association is to ensure members are regularly updated on which training is recognised as a pathway to registration as a Play Therapist with PTPA.

With this goal in mind, the Board has worked tirelessly to provide a comprehensive document that details all current training available in Australia, and what hours are recognised for professional membership.

NOTE: Document is currently under assessment and will be updated soon.

This document will remain a dynamic and regularly reviewed overview of training providers in Australia, to provide confidence to our members of the current training options they have when registering with us.

Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have any questions, our email is info@playtherapyassoc.com.au

Recognised Supervisors for PTPA Member Registration and Renewal

PTPA recognises that currently in Australia, the profession of Play Therapy continues to evolve, requiring the Association to remain responsive to changes and ensure the highest quality standards of practice are adhered to.

As a result, and in support of ensuring our members have access to quality supervision to support the important work of therapy services with children and families, the Association wishes to advise as of 18th May 2024, all supervision hours counted towards registration or renewal must be completed with a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor through PTPA, or alternatively a Play Therapist Association of their choosing (including APPTA, APTA, APT and BAPT).

We encourage any current PTPA members to explore the option of becoming a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor with PTPA, having completed the following qualifications:

– Completed the required 300 hours of client work and 40 hours of clinical supervision (10 hours can be personal therapy hours) to become a Registered Play Therapist;

– Completion of a further 300 hours of client work and 40 hours of clinical supervision (10 hours can be personal therapy hours) to become a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor (total of 600 client hours and 80 supervision/ personal therapy hours) over a minimum 2 year period post RPT status; AND

– Completion of 3 day supervision training program related specifically to providing supervision to practitioners in a human services related capacity

Should any members have any concerns or questions in relation to the eligibility of their supervisor, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@playtherapyassoc.com.au

Group Supervision Hours

PTPA values the opportunity for members to connect with like minded professionals in the field of Play Therapy to enhance delivery of services and professional practice.

As such, the Board agrees to recognise 50% of members registering or renewing clinical supervision hours as completed via group supervision. The remaining 50% of hours required must be completed one on one with a Registered Play Therapist- Supervisor from a recognised Play Therapist Association.
